What we collect when you use your Empire account, the Empire Launcher, our games and apps — and how to delete it all.
Empire Groups is an independent game studio. This policy covers your Empire account and everything that uses it: the Empire Launcher on Windows and Mac, our games, our iPhone and iPad apps, online saves and Empire Forge. We only collect what we need to run these services, we never sell your data and we show no ads.
Questions? Use our contact form. Our servers are hosted in France by OVH.
Your Empire account
Your email address, the display name you choose and your password — stored only as a salted hash that nobody can read, not even us. We also keep the date and IP address of your sign-up, and whether you agreed to receive our news (and when).
Why: to create your account, sign you in and keep it secure. Legal basis: the contract between us (our terms of use).
Devices and sign-ins
Each computer or mobile device you sign in on gets a random identifier. We keep its name, operating system and version, model (on iPhone and iPad), the version of the launcher or app, the last IP address it used, and when we first and last saw it.
We keep a history of your sign-ins and of each time you open one of our games on a mobile device, with the date, the device and the IP address. Your signed-in sessions can be closed at any time.
Why: to keep your account secure, spot suspicious sign-ins and help you when something goes wrong. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting your account.
Games and playtime
The games in your library and how you got them, the version of the conditions you accepted and when, the games and versions installed on each device, and your play sessions (start, end, duration, version). If you ask to join a beta, we keep the email address you gave, your message and the status of your request.
Why: to give you access to your games, keep them up to date and understand how our games are played. Legal basis: the contract between us, and our legitimate interest in improving our games.
Online saves
When a game saves online, we store your save file — your company, progress and everything the game needs to continue — together with its revision number, the date, the device that sent it, a short summary (for Airline Empire: company name, in-game day, cash, routes and fleet) and your play time. We keep the latest version and the one before it.
Why: so you can play on your computer and continue on your iPhone or iPad, and recover your progress if a device is lost. Legal basis: the contract between us. Your online saves are deleted with your account, or earlier on request.
Empire Forge
Creations you publish (files, pictures, title and description) are public, with your display name. So are your comments. Ratings, favorites and subscriptions are counted publicly without showing who made them. Reports you send are only seen by our moderators.
This website
The contact form, the newsletter and our cookie-free audience measurement are described in our legal notice.
How long we keep it
- Account, devices, sign-in history, library, playtime and online saves: as long as your account exists.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact messages: up to three years after our last exchange.
- Empire Forge creations and comments: until you or our moderators delete them, or your account is deleted.
Delete your account
You can delete your account at any time, in the Empire Launcher (Account → Delete account), in the account settings of our iPhone and iPad apps, or by writing to us. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your account, library, devices, sign-in history, playtime, online saves and Empire Forge creations and comments are erased. Games installed on your devices stay there until you uninstall them.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, object to, restrict and port your data. To exercise them, write to us through the contact form. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
